How to choose a web agency in Colombia

The design shows in the portfolio. What does not show is what hurts later: whose name everything is in, what it costs each month, and what happens if you want to leave. These questions bring it out.

Before you ask for quotes

Be clear on what the site has to do: bring in enquiries, sell, take bookings or look credible. With that, every agency can quote the same thing, and the answers become comparable.

Questions about ownership

  • Whose name is the domain registered in? It should be yours, from day one.
  • Who holds access to the hosting and the accounts?
  • Who owns the design and content once I have paid?
  • Are the payment and analytics accounts in my name?
  • Does the site run on something of yours? If so, what are you licensing me, and on what terms?
  • If I leave, what do you hand over, how fast, and at what price?

Questions about money and timelines

  • Is the price fixed? How is a scope change priced?
  • How big is the deposit, and which deliveries is the rest tied to?
  • What is the timeline per stage, and what do you need from me to hit it?
  • Is there a contract or written terms before work starts?

Questions for after launch

  • What do maintenance or hosting cost each month, and what exactly does that cover?
  • What guarantee do you give, for how long, and what does it cover?
  • What can I edit myself, and what do I have to ask you for?
  • Who do I talk to when something breaks, and during what hours?

How to check a portfolio

Ask for links to live sites, not just images. Open them on your phone on mobile data: do they load fast, look right, does the form work? If you can, ask the business what working with that agency was like.

Check the company details too: registered name, location and a contact who answers. A new agency is not a red flag; hiding that it is new is.

Red flags

  • The domain ends up in the agency's name, or the builder's.
  • They will not tell you what leaving costs, or the answer is "you can't".
  • A price with no written scope, or a vague scope like "full website".
  • A monthly fee with no detail of what it covers.
  • A portfolio without a single live link.
  • Pressure to sign today.
  • Guaranteed "first place on Google".

Questions

What is the most important thing to ask an agency?

Whose name the domain is in, and what it costs to leave. Those two answers say a lot about how an agency treats its clients.

Is hiring a new agency a bad idea?

Not necessarily. Ask for live sites, written terms and details you can check. We are new, and we say so.

Do I need a contract for a small site?

At minimum you want written terms covering scope, price, timeline and ownership. With us, you accept the terms and proposal before any work starts.

Can I change my mind after buying?

If you buy as a consumer in Colombia, you have 5 business days of retracto with us, and we do not start work you would have to pay for inside that window unless you waive it explicitly.

How do I tell if a portfolio site is any good?

Open it on your phone on mobile data, try the form or WhatsApp button, and search the business on Google to see whether it shows up.
